ConFed's growth. Quality or Quantity?

It's all in the title.

Personally I'm all for more people but what's the point of a 100+ clan if half of them are inactive and half of the half are dicks. That said we also can't have a clan with just a few active people. In my opinion Quality is the answer. Instead of mass recruitment ads that the CRA posted. I would suggest that from now on we only recruit players with the values of a ConFed.

Honestly after hearing about what happened to Orion I was left to question this clan. I don't want to recruit people who can just turn on us like he did, after all the things ConFed did.

Orion was a great person. He was -quality- but for whatever reason had some issues etc.

As a final act of respect on my part to Orion *salutes*
Now as for the inactive rule. Why don't we only change it to 3 weeks no last Discord log-in or last game played. Because not everyone logs in more than once in the website after their registration.

People will leave. Recruiting en mass should be done by playing with people not by posting them on message boards IMO. Those are the people that are least likely to add benefit or stick around.

Good point but, the problem with this is if more than just a few select people can manage to sacrifice just a bit of their time to recruit a person they see is beneficial to the clan. Or put aside that pride of winning and see beyond it.

Quantity > Quality always. In a CONFEDERATION, all are welcome. No discrimination gives freedom to anyone who wishes to join. Quality control can be implemented with officers, roles, and rank hierarchies in order to control the maturity and other factors which should have been addressed with the revival of groups like JCOS. We need more representation for the average member, and voting needs to hold more of a way of pushing forward agenda and changes rather than a group of privileged members who earn power through personal favor with the high ranked and doing things that impress the leaders.

The time and commitment issue can be solved by handing responsibilities down, as ranks are appointed and roles are created; even if they are brand new; even if they are a part of new laws, amended laws, or agreed upon by the group in power.

ConFed has never been a small # group with quality members other than KeepeR, but I do believe a member limit should be enforced. 150 or so so should be the cut off unless an expansion is commissioned by HC, JCOS, or proposed by a member and put to a vote, which we don't seem to take advantage of enough. That's my two-sense.

Quantity will always leave room for quality development; but focusing on quality will diminish our target community, possibly tarnish alliances/relationships w other clans, and make us just another elitist clan of a few who get cut, dropped, interchanged, and switched around based on the members' current level of skill.

Rank needs to be earned by the merit of the duty performed not by the tasks handed out from the top down and based off of whether or not it pleases them or not. Every position should be earned, but there should be plenty of ways to earn it. We need more wisdom, and ideas like this thread is a step in the right direction.....it's about time someone proposed serious questions that seem trivial to some, but will determine the direction we head in...

VOTE: QUANTITY -- quality is developed and mostly is limited to skill. quantity offers other outer-game talents that we could use to push ConFed in the right direction; commercially, socially, etc. Rant end.

Good to come back and still see Telos going off on unrelated rants.

To the point in question, ultimately the quality of a member comes down to that individual member. You can obtain quality members through recruitment posts etc. just like you can obtain poor ones who 'show' the values of Confed. No system will ensure absolute quality without effectively crippling your recruitment processes and in this day and age, recruits would dry up with such a system in place.

As a result quantity is the easier and more sustainable system to ensure the clans longevity. Subsequently when members show their poor form and are not moulding to the clans values, then they are shown the door.

Activity is a whole other issue and I won't even go near that in this.

Even when you're quality sometimes you still get screwed over. Even if the person liked ConFed it really changes their perspective and makes them dislike it more and more every day. Then the only reason for them to stay is for the few friends they have made and not the clan. cool

The more people we have, the more that are likely to be playing starcraft...which it seems no one does anymore

I feel ya angl3dust. Seems as if you me and Sweetness are the only people who main SC2.

As for growth why don't we expand into the current king of PC games. League of legends. If we do that we can gather a bunch of members. We will not accept defeat.

A lot of people play SC2. Many of us are late night people, literarily confed seems most active ~2AM some days.

And yeah @imperfection I agree that the activity guidelines should be changed.

Currently I've been following "2 weeks no game played = inactive"; which is the rule (including website login etc...) but I think we should lax these rules for sure.

Before; people would notify us if they went on vacation - although people don't do that, so we don't know if they quit or have IRL things to attend to. It's not their fault (kinda) but they wouldn't know to notify us etc.

I don't see why not expand to other games, and we're kinda trying to do that with the other Blizzard games.

Although in reality it's difficult to organize people in games where there's no clan support.

It all starts with a few people dedicated to a game - willing to bring others in and befriend them.

It is summer - people are going on vacation and playing less video games. Some people playing more though...

and befriend them.

This is also one of our problems. Social connectivity. This clan needs better social connectivity. Only problem is how.
